Introduced in 1875, Black Seeded Simpson is a favorite heirloom loose–leaf lettuce with sweet, extra large, light– green, crumpled leaves. Inner leaves blanch almost white. Slow bolting, never bitter, early and adaptable.

Scratch into soil surface. Start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost. This variety is well suited to cold frame sowing. Thin seedlings to 8–12" apart when they have grown 4 true leaves. Moderate water. Sun – Partial shade.
